Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of academic supervision using classroom observation techniques on the quality of classroom management among teachers at public junior high schools in Babulu District, Penajam Paser Utara Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto method and a correlational design. The population consisted of all teachers at public junior high schools in Babulu District, Penajam Paser Utara Regency, with a sample of 73 teachers selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed that academic supervision using classroom observation techniques was in the good category, with a mean score of 102.95 and an item mean of 3.43. The quality of teachers' classroom management was also in the good category, with a mean score of 104.60 and an item mean of 3.50. The inferential analysis showed that academic supervision using classroom observation techniques had a positive and significant effect on the quality of teachers' classroom management. This was indicated by a regression coefficient of 0.871, a t-value of 15.015, which was greater than the t-table value of 1.666, and a significance value of 0.000. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.761 indicated that academic supervision using classroom observation techniques explained 76.1% of the variance in the quality of teachers' classroom management, while the remaining 23.9% was influenced by other factors outside the research model. Thus, academic supervision using classroom observation techniques was shown to have a positive and significant effect on the quality of teachers' classroom management and to serve as one of the professional development strategies supporting the improvement of teachers' classroom management quality.
