Abstract

This reasearch aims to systematically map and analyse the evolution of overconfidence research within behavioural finance from 1987 to 2024, identifying key trends, influential works, and emerging research networks. This study uses bibliometric analysis with the database used sourced from the Web of Science from 1987 to 2024. This research find overconfidence behaviour in the financial decision-making process can be clustered into five main themes: personal investment, financial markets, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and risk management. This study contributes to the identification of clusters of overconfidence behaviours in the financial context that may distort shareholder wealth enhancement and investment asset value maximisation. This research implication is to development of policies to mitigate overconfidence behaviour by stakeholders on the basis of the clustering conducted so as to support quality financial decision-making processes. This reasearch limitation is Clustering behavioural overconfidence in financial contexts only draws on historical evidence.
