Focus and Scope
Borobudur Law Review is a peer-reviewed legal journal that publishes high-quality scholarly work with a primary focus on human rights law. The journal aims to advance legal thought by providing a platform for critical inquiry into how human rights are understood, interpreted, applied, and challenged within various legal, cultural, political, and institutional frameworks.
In line with its mission, the journal welcomes contributions that address the universality and contextual particularities of human rights norms, as well as the legal mechanisms designed to protect and promote fundamental freedoms. Articles may examine both substantive and procedural aspects of human rights law, including but not limited to civil and political rights, economic and social rights, constitutional protections, minority and indigenous rights, gender and equality law, and the interaction between law and tradition.
Borobudur Law Review encourages submissions that adopt doctrinal, normative, comparative, philosophical, or interdisciplinary approaches—provided they maintain a strong legal foundation. The journal is particularly interested in manuscripts that offer critical perspectives on current developments in human rights law, explore the role of legal institutions in safeguarding human dignity, or reflect on emerging challenges in access to justice, legal reform, and rule of law.
While the journal maintains a global outlook, it places particular emphasis on legal developments in jurisdictions where human rights law is undergoing contestation, reinterpretation, or institutional transformation. In doing so, Borobudur Law Review aspires to enrich legal discourse and contribute to the ongoing pursuit of justice, equity, and human dignity through law.
