Abstract

School-age children require optimal nutritional intake, which is crucial for supporting their growth and development towards adolescence. The quality of a child's nutritional status is often influenced by inappropriate parental feeding practices. The objective of this community service activity was to provide education and increase the knowledge of Primary School (SD) students' parents regarding the importance of correct feeding practices in improving their children's nutritional status. The activity was conducted at SDN Keliling Benteng Tengah and SDN Keliling Benteng Ulu 2 using lectures and independent exercises. Evaluation results indicated a significant increase in knowledge, evidenced by a meaningful difference between the mean pre-test score (4.7 ± 0.42) and the mean post-test score (4.9 ± 0.27) with a p-value of >0.043. Furthermore, the activity included the handover of booklets on child feeding practices and nutritional status to the schools, as well as the screening of educational videos. The conclusion of this activity is that education on parental feeding practices is effective in increasing parental knowledge, which positively impacts efforts to improve the nutritional status quality of school-age children.
