Generative AI Policy

Automotive Experiences (AE) recognizes that generative AI and AI-assisted technologies are increasingly used in scholarly communication. This policy, adapted from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), aims to promote transparency, research integrity, accountability, and responsible use of AI throughout the publication process. Editor AE will periodically review and update this policy in response to technological developments and evolving publishing standards.

General Principles

The following principles apply to all participants in the publication process:

Human authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully responsible for their work and decisions.
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed for accuracy, completeness, bias, and originality.
The use of AI must not compromise confidentiality, intellectual property rights, or data privacy.
Any use of AI should be transparent and appropriately disclosed when required.

For Author

Permitted Uses

Improving grammar, spelling, readability, and language quality.
Assisting with manuscript editing before submission.
AI-assisted image analysis or interpretation when it is part of the research methodology.

Required Actions

Review and verify all AI-generated outputs.
Take full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the manuscript.
Disclose the use of AI in a dedicated statement within the manuscript.
Describe AI methods in sufficient detail when AI tools are part of the research design or methodology.

Prohibited Uses

Listing AI tools as authors or co-authors.
Citing AI tools as authors.
Using generative AI to create, modify, manipulate, or enhance figures, images, graphical abstracts, or artwork intended for publication.
Using AI-generated content without human verification.

Disclosure Statement Example

Authors who use AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation should include a statement such as:

"The authors used [tool name] to improve language and readability during manuscript preparation. All outputs were reviewed and edited by the authors, who take full responsibility for the content of this manuscript."

For Reviewers

Responsibilities

Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and review materials.
Provide independent scientific judgment and critical evaluation.
Remain accountable for the content of review reports.

Prohibited Uses

Uploading manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, review reports, or related documents into generative AI systems.
Using AI tools to evaluate scientific quality or generate review recommendations.
Sharing confidential information through AI platforms.

For Editor

Responsibilities

Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and editorial communications.
Ensure editorial decisions are based on independent human judgment.
Monitor compliance with the journal’s AI and publication ethics policies.

Prohibited Uses

Uploading manuscripts, reviewer reports, decision letters, or confidential editorial documents into generative AI systems.
Using AI tools to make editorial evaluations or publication decisions.
Disclosing confidential information through AI platforms.
